What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the correction of irregularities in the development of the jaw and the growth of teeth. The irregular growth of teeth and asymmetry of the jaw can cause both aesthetic and functional problems.

After a professional examination and a conversation with the patient, the Luka Dent dental practice will create a treatment plan that will provide the best results. With regular follow-up, we will make your teeth straight and your smile perfect. Orthodontic appliances can be fixed or mobile. There is no better or worse device: fixed appliances have their indications, and mobile appliances have their indications.

What is Braces?

Braces are intended for both children and adults and are used to bring teeth into the correct position relative to neighboring teeth and the teeth in the opposing jaw. Generally, braces are worn in combination (both upper and lower simultaneously), except for minor irregularities, where it is sufficient to align only one or two teeth.

What is a Mobile Prosthesis?

These appliances are intended for the youngest patients who are still growing and developing. They can be for only one jaw (active plates) or for both jaws (activator, bionator). Modern orthodontics is increasingly focused on using the Myobrace system, which is an easier option for mobile appliances. It should be noted that when wearing mobile orthodontic appliances, the cooperation and desire of the child to wear the appliance is extremely important for the therapy to be successful. The prostheses are worn for a minimum of 14 hours per day. The appliance has a screw that rotates in agreement with the orthodontist every 7 and 10 days. Mobile prostheses cannot properly and completely correct heavily rotated or inclined teeth, teeth that have grown in the wrong place. Braces are used for such anomalies. The therapy with mobile orthodontic appliances is generally the first phase of therapy, which we start at an early age when we fix the position of the jaws, after which a fixed appliance is placed that corrects the position of the teeth and the therapy is finished. If the problem is not fixed at an early age, it becomes worse over time.
